The Wagrain Advent Market is one of the most festive and reflective in all of Austria. Wagrain, the Silent Night Village, enchants visitors big and small with its evocative illuminations, Christmas music and tempting aromas. Whether culinary specialities, warming drinks or arts & crafts – virtually all the products offered at the Christmas Market are homemade by the locals themselves.
Advent Events in Wagrain:
- Wagrain Advent Market – Christmas Market with concerts, mouth-watering foods, arts and crafts, every Saturday during Advent (06.12., 13.12. and 20.12.2008)
- Krampus Fair – Perchten procession with Wagrain’s Krampus societies  Â
- Christmas exhibition by woodcarver,  Martin Seer – arts and crafts
- Creation of a wooden figure at the workshop of woodcarver,  Martin Seer – crafts demonstration
- "Silent Night Wagrain" – elementary-school children sing at the graveside of  Joseph Mohr, reading on the mountain (Griessenkareck)
- Winter Bonfire – mystical festival of fire to open the winter season  Â
- "Silent Night Wagrain" – Advent choral concert at the Wagrain Parish Church, choir accompanied on the organ
- Christmas Eve, tower fanfares and midnight mass
- Traditional Joseph Mohr Memorial Singing
Advent is also the time in Salzburg for processions of Krampus and Perchten figures. As we have grown to expect, those scary figures will once again be causing mischief in Wagrain. This traditional custom is a real spectacle for the whole family. Yet another Wagrain highlight are the Winter Bonfires. This fire ceremony on the mountains is for guests and locals to enjoy side by side, conjuring up an atmosphere beyond compare. There is no more beautiful way to welcome in the new winter season.
