Culture Walk in Wagrain

Experience History and Nature in the SalzburgerLand

The Wagrain Culture Walk leads you out through this picturesque Austrian holiday village. There is so much to learn and discover at the stations along the way.

During your vacation in Salzburg, be sure to schedule in at least an hour for the Culture Walk.  It’s a great opportunity to get to know Wagrain from a totally new perspective. At 13 information stations, you will learn interesting facts about the rich history of your holiday spot. It is not surprising that the main focus is on the two people most famously associated with Wagrain: Joseph Mohr and Karl Heinrich Waggerl.

  2. Parsonage – former home of Joseph Mohr
  3. Joseph Mohr exhibition and gravesite
  4. Karl Heinrich Waggerl gravesite
  5. Parish church – early-Gothic church, first chronicled in 1359
  6. Joseph Mohr School
  7. Karl Heinrich Waggerl residence and museum
  8. Waggerlwiese field
  9. Herb garden and Kneipp spa
  10. Pflegerschlössel – old administrative building
  11. Marktkirche – small Baroque church, completed in 1651
  12. Market Linden Tree: "Emperor’s Linden", planted 1880
  13. Town crest – local history

You will be able to complete the full tour in about one hour. If you prefer, the short tour takes you just to Station 8 and lasts about 30 minutes. The path leads you through the whole town, with a few gentle, not too strenuous climbs along the way. Groups have the option of booking a guided walking tour of Wagrain. Additional information is available through the Wagrain Tourist Office.
