Romantic winter holidays in the heart of Austria
Deeply rooted and romantic: Christmas in Salzburger Land
Join us and experience "A Christmas as it used to be" here in SalzburgerLand. Wagrain-Kleinarl reveals itself as a genuine Christmas idyll, during which holidaymakers celebrate in anticipation of Christmas together with the people of the two communities. "Silent Night Wagrain" events are very much dedicated to commemorating vicar Joseph Mohr who, in 1818, penned the words of the Christmas song "Silent Night! Holy Night!" He spent the last years of his life in this idyllic holiday town in the mountains of Salzburg.
A truly special magic makes a winter getaway in Wagrain during Advent the perfect choice. The special events of "Silent Night Wagrain" make their own unique contribution: An Advent program which, with its mixture of authentic traditions and winter romance, is able to captivate one and all.
Splendidly decorated and artistically illuminated - this is the image of Wagrain in the time before Christmas. On Saturdays in Advent, traditional Christmas markets are held. If you are in search of some Christmas kitsch, then this is the wrong place for you: The local exhibitors only sell traditional items and goods produced in the area. Christmas culinary specialties from the Wagrain-Kleinarl region sweeten the pre-Christmas season for you even more, while artistic wood carvings are sure to fascinate you. And while you are at it, how about a small souvenir for your close friends back home? Incidentally: The cooperation between the tourist offices in Wagrain and Kleinarl means that you can also look forward to a variety-filled Christmas program in our neighboring village as well.
Silent Night Wagrain - contemplative Christmas events in Salzburg
A variety of Christmas events remind us of Joseph Mohr's message of peace, "Silent Night! Holy Night!" One of the highlights of this Advent program is known as "Castle Lights". On December 8, locals and holidaymakers walk together by the light of burning torches up Wagrain's Castle Hill.
Other great events, including a visit by Saint Nicholas, readings and traditional reenactments of Joseph and Mary's search for shelter, choir concerts and the Silent Night Post Office at the Waggerl Museum promise just the right amount of quiet reflection you seek during your holidays.
A getaway with your whole family is especially wonderful: The ski slopes aren't overly full, attractive Advent packages during your pre-Christmas ski vacation are kind on your budget. In the Children's Bakery your youngsters give the Christ Child a bit of a hand - these cookies are bound to taste amazing!
On 26 December, the people of Wagrain draw their Christmas festivities to a stylish conclusion - with the "Joseph Mohr Memorial Singing". An impressive commemorative event, sure to truly move you and leave you with lasting memories.
