Current Weather Data, Snow Depths and Forecasts
The Wagrain ski area lies on the northern flank of the Alps, with snows you can almost always count on. And when you factor in our outstanding snow-making capability, perfect snow conditions are virtually guaranteed during your ski vacation in Austria.
Top Snow Conditions in the Wagrain Ski Area
Your Wagrain ski area lies at elevations ranging between 850 and 2,014 metres above sea level. Due to its advantageous location on the northern side of the Alps, you can generally look forward to exceptional snow conditions. The Wagrain mountain lifts also deploy state-of-the-art snowmaking equipment, compensating for any natural fluctuations in weather and precipitation. With a total of 180 snow canons and snow lances, snowmaking is possible on 85 percent (by area) of the slopes – all the way back down into the valley.
Snowmaking Machines and Ecology
Machine-produced snow is often falsely referred to as “artificial snow”. But snow canons essentially imitate nature itself – though at more of a fast-motion tempo. Water and air are the exclusive ingredients for perfect snow in Wagrain. The water originates from rivers and streams, and from reservoirs which have been completely integrated into the landscape. Machine-produced snow also results in a firm blanket of snow, which protects the Alpine meadows beneath – a fact you will be able to see for yourself when you are out hiking in summer.
